Problems of Spellings in Sindhi and Their Solution:

Sindhi Language Authority organised a seminar on the problems of Spellings in Sindhi and their solution, on 4th November 2008 in Dr. N.A Baloch Hall. The Seminar was presided over by eminent Scholar Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo, while Dr. G.A. Allana was the chief guest. Proceedings were conducted by Mr. Taj Joyo, Secretary Sindhi Language Authority. Opening the discussion, Dr. Fahimda Hussain, the Chairperson, Sindhi Language Authority welcomed the guests and said that the seminar had been organised in order to get assistance from experts regarding solution of these problems. Dr. Madad Ali Qadri, Dr. Parveen Shah, Mr. Salim Bhutto Latifi, Dr Allah Rakhio Butt, Prof. Qalandar Shah Lakiari , Mr. Valiram Valabh, Prof Idress Jatoi,

 

Mr. Shafi Chandio, Mr. Mehran Malah, Mr. Rukhman Gul Palari, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Mr. Imdad Hussaini, Dr. Sahar Imdad, Prof. Taj joyo and Prof. Saleem Memon participated in the discussion. Dr. G.A.Allana, the chief guest, in his address threw light on the subject in detail and welcomed Dr. Fahmida Hussain Chairperson Sindhi Language Authority, for renewed efforts in this regard. He opined that the spellings of words written in different ways should be finalized, and then officially notified. Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Joyo, in his presidential address, said that Sindhi is a developed language and there is no confusion what so ever about the spellings of indigenous words. However, he said that there must be some principles for writing foreign words, which Sindhi has accepted during its interaction with other languages.

In this end a committee was unanimously constituted for this purpose. The Committee comprises of Mr. Muhammd Ibrahim Joyo, Dr.G.A. Allana, Prof. Qalandar Shah Lakyari, Prof. Taj Joyo and Dr. Fahmida Hussain, Chairperson, Sindhi Language Authority, who was also authorized to include any other member

 

   

Dialects and Sub-dialects of Sindhi Language:

A Seminar on the topic of “Dialects and Sub-dialectsof Sindhi Language" was organised on 21st June, 2008 in the Dr. N. A. Baloch Hall. The Seminar was presided over by eminent scholar Dr. Nabi Buksh Khan Baloch, while the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Government of Sindh, Madam. Sasui Palijo, Mr. Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo and Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haque Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor Sindh University were the guests of honour.

 

The Seminar was dedicated to the great leader “Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed ”, Dr. Fahmida Hussain, Chairperson Sindhi Language Authority, in her brief speech, told the audience about the future plans and projects of Sindhi Language Authority. She said that the international conference on Indus Script would be convened shortly, while the work on Encyclopedia had been geared up. Madam Sasui Palijo, Dr. Nabi Bux Khan Baloch, Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo, Mr. Mazhar-ul-Haque Siddiqui also spoke on this occasion. Mr. Phuloomal Meghwar, Mr. Rukhman Gul Palari, Mr. Taj Joyo, Dr Abdul Jabbar Junejo and Syed Imdad Hussani presented their papers. On this occasion., three books were also launched “Sangeet Sansar”, “Papers on Sindhi Language Vol: III” and “Lari & Kachhi Muhawara”, published by Sindhi Language Authority. Vocalists Zulifiqar & Mazhar Hussain rendered verses from Shah-Jo-Risalo.

 

Status of Sindhi Language In India:

The Sindhi Language Authority hosted a reception in the honour of visiting Indian Scholars and Linguists on 11-11-2008. On this occasion a seminar was also organised on “Status of Sindhi Language and Literature in India”. The reception was largely attended by writers, poets, Journalists and intellectuals. The delegation comprised of Dr. Chandar Daswani, Mr. Hero Thakur and Dr. Jetho Lalwani. Mr. Taj Joyo, Secretary Sindhi Language Authority, welcomed the guests and threw light over their contribution to Sindhi Language and Literature.

 
They were presented Ajraks and books. Dr. Jetho Lalwani, Mr. Hiro Thakur and Dr. Chadar Daswani, speaking on the occasion, gave an account of the status of Sindhi Language and Literature in India. They discussed in depth the present position of Sindhi language in media and institutions working for Sindhi language in India. The reception was attended among others by Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo , Dr. G.A.Allana. Mr. Hamid Sindhi, Mr. Imdad Hussani, Mr. Valiram Valambh, Dr. Ejaz Qureshi, Dr. Sahar Imdad, Ms.Amar Sindhu, Ms. Irfana Malh etc. Seminar was followed by question answer session. In the end tea was served to the guests and participants.
 
  Importance of Children Literature in Sindhi Language:

A Seminar entitled “Importance of Children Literature in Sindhi Language” was held on 20.11.2008. at Dr. N.A. Baloch Hall. The seminar was presided over by eminent scholar Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Joyo, while Dr. Asad Qazi, Vice Chancellor, Isra University was the chief guest. Indian Scholar Dr. Jetho Lalwani and Mr. Hiro Thakur as well as Mr. Ayaz Gul and Mr. Ayaz Patoli were the guests of honour.

 

Dr. Fahmida Hussain, Chairperson Sindhi Language Authority welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of children literature in Sindhi Language. She also informed the participants about the efforts being put by Sindhi Language Authority towards producting Children Literature. Mr. Khalid Azad Vighio, Mr. Ghulam Mustafa Solangi, Mahar Khadim and Mr. Nasir Mirza presented their papers. A tableau based on the poem of Ustad Bukhari “Sindhi Boli Quomi Boli” was presented on this occasion by Samra Nizamani, and Mohammad Adiya Nizamani of Gulshan Balak Sangat.

 

  Seminar on Language used in Sindhi Text Books:

A seminar entitled “ Language used in Sindhi Text Books” was organized on 27-1-2009, which was largely attended by academics, linguists and writers. The seminar was presided over by Dr. Habibullah Siddiqui, former Chairman of Sindh Text Book Board, while Dr. G.A. Allana was the chief guest. Mr. Abdul Salam Khoja the present Chairman Sindh Text Book Board and Imdad Hussaini were the guests of honour. Mr. Taj Joyo Secretary Sindhi Language Authority welcomed the guests and participants and presented a critical review of language and pictures in the text books.The Chairperson Sindhi Language Authority, Dr. Fahimda Hussain welcoming the guests, briefly stated the purpose of seminar.

 
She stressed the need for using appropriate language in the Sindhi text books. Prof. Idrees Jatoi, Prof. Syed Sher Shah, Mr. Mohammad Bux Khokhar, Prof. Khadim Mirjat, Ms. Rehana Channer ,Prof. Qalandar Shah Lakyari, Prof Khalil Ahmed Korai, Prof Ali Murtaza Dharejo presented, their papers in which they reviewed the language and contests of different text books. Mr. Abdul Salam Khoja, Chairman Sindh Text Book Board, presented his point of view in this regard. Mr. Imdad Hussiani, speaking on the occasion, pointed out the reasons of errors in Sindhi Text books, Dr. Ghulam Ali Allana, in his speech suggested that a training be arranged jointly by Sindhi Language Authority and Sindh Text Book Board for the writers of text books. He also suggested that the text books should be published after their review by Sindhi Language Authority. Dr. Habibullah Siddiqui delivered presidential address and said that the seminar was very important for which Sindhi Language Authority deserved congratulations. On this occasion various suggestions were also put forward by the speakers.

In the end, fateha was offered for Mr. A.H Dani, linguist and archeologist of eminence.
